Chatterbox that I am, I’ve made friends with the neighbours of every property I’ve lived at. Each of them have their merits but undoubtedly my favourite neighbour is the one who asks me to dogsit for them for 2 weeks each Summer. In Brighton! Joyful! Joe and I are heading down to the seaside city on the first Sunday of the month. The day after we come back he starts a new job in London so it’s going to be a busyyyy month. For that reason, just a lil TBR to see me through August, especially as my Kindle is going to be coming in clutch.
📖 Rachel’s Holiday by Marian Keyes
A recommendation from my sister and a book I’d like to give back to her to get off my shelves. I’m going on holiday so it makes sense to read a book with ‘holiday’ in the title. However, it seems like the holiday is less Costa-del-Rio and more like Costa-del-Rehab. Rachel, a 27-year-old drug addict, is sent to rehab in Dublin by her family who are at the end of their tether. It sounds like there is a lot of soul-searching and I expect that a book I think is going to be fairly light-hearted will actually leave me in tears. Joe said I should choose teary books and call this TBR ‘Rawgust’ – maybe he was onto something there.
📱Just For The Summer by Abby Jimenez
I’ve got a post on the way extolling why I love my Kindle, one of them being how easy it is to travel with and how it slots perfectly into the Uniqlo crossbody bag. Going on hols means I can dive into all my Kindle books which usually get overlooked in favour of working through my physical TBR. One of my colleagues + everyone on the internet it seems has been talking about Just For The Summer and as it is ROASTING in the UK at the moment, it’s a good opportunity to dive in. It follows Justin and Emma, two unlucky eggs who find that everyone they date meets the love of their life…right after dating either of them. To combat karma, they date one another to cancel their curses out. It’s giving Just My Luck vibes, and I’m here for it!
📱The Shadow Cabinet by Juno Dawson
The final book of the HMRC series, Human Rites, has just been announced for 2025. Unfortunately, in reading the Instagram caption for this I spoilt the cliffhanger that book 1 ended on BUT we move! I read Her Majesty’s Royal Coven as part of my January 2024 TBR and enjoyed it so much, so I’m very excited to return to the world and watch as the magic and mayhem unfold! No spoilers here my friends!
So that’s it for August, taking it steady but if I’m going to hit my reading goal I need to read about 10 books a month. Yikes x
Happy reading!
